Finding time to exercise

For many people, a long day at work, looking after the children, completing household chores or even hitting the shops can be tiring in itself and all take up so much of our spare time.  You might find it difficult to find free time for exercising, but its important to remember two things:

  • Exercise doesn't have to take up too much time - just 30 minutes a day will sustain a basic level of fitness
  • Exercise can be built into your day to day lifestyle - so eventually it becomes something that you just do and isn't seem as a chore.

Here are a couple of tips on how you can make the most of your time, and ensure that exercise fits into your lifestyle:

  • Go for a walk at lunchtime - it gives you a break from your desk, and you'll be keeping fit at the same time
  • If possible, walk to and from work.  Or walk to the shops rather than taking the car.
  • Exercise with your children - this will keep you all fit and healthy and you'll spend some quality time together as a family too!  You could all go swimming - we've got lots of sessions to choose from.  You could even get your children signed up to Fitness Unlimited for just £11 a month
  • Exercising at home can be easy too - do some gardening or some spring cleaning.  This will burn some calories.
  • Make an appointment in your diary for exercise - and stick to too.  It might be tempting to cancel your appointment but think of it as an essential meeting that you just can't miss.

Don't forget about our Fitness Options - these are free to all Fitness Unlimited members and aim to keep you challenge and motivated throughout your membership.  Find out more >
